A lunchtime concert to celebrate Deviock Community Music's first anniversary. The 26-strong band performed a full programme of live music, while Music Around Deviock volunteers provided food and beverages. This fund-raising event was a great success, with profits ploughed back into the band's coffers to help cover next year’s insurance costs, various items of small equipment, professional fees (orchestrations, etc.) and possible future CD/DVD production costs. DCM wishes to formally thank M.A.D. for its kindness and support throughout DCM's first year of existence.

Saturday July 30th 2011 - Big Lunch with Risky Business
Inn On The Shore garden, Downderry,
The 2011 Downderry and Seaton Carnival concluded with a highly enjoyable Big Lunch organised by Turning Tide. A slimmed-down DCM of 'only' 16 players somehow squeezed onto a stage above this seaside pub's lovely little garden and entertained a relaxed post-carnival crowd with a rousing set. The sound of the excellent Risky Business was then heard echoing round the hills behind Downderry as the Crafthole band powered through a typically tight set of pop covers. Thanks to all who came along to soak up the afternoon music and sunshine, to Turning Tide, and to Russ Davies for stepping in at short notice to deputise for our regular drummer!

Sunday January 16th 2011 - Lunchtime concert with Risky Business
Working Men's Club, Downderry.
January 2011 saw our first public performance, at M.A.D.'s Jazz Lunch at Downderry WMC. We opened in festival spirit extolling the virtues of ‘Tequila’, moved seamlessly through musical moods to the hauntingly beautiful Duke Ellington jazz ballad ‘Come Sunday’, continued our journey onward to the folk idiom to include a ‘Horse’s Brawl’ before taking a ‘Trip to Drake’s Circus’, and finally hailing the ‘Watermelon Man’.
Outside it duly delivered the rain, but our packed hall was bright with music and merriment and nourished with a wholesome lunch provided by a team of M.A.D. volunteers. Music Around Deviock does a great job of supporting and promoting live local music. Our musical director Mr. Martin Entwistle was kind enough to bring along some very talented musician friends and played a great set with his band Risky Business. We salute their generosity for performing free of charge and we thank those of you who turned out to support our community band.
